{5-minute, 5-ingredient} Homemade Chocolate Syrup ~ quick and easy; perfect on ice cream or in chocolate milk; no additives like store bought brands | FiveHeartHome.comIn case you haven’t noticed, lately I’ve been on quite a kick of making my own kitchen staples. In addition to various dry mixes for my pantry, I also like to stock my refrigerator with natural, homemade versions of what I used to buy at the grocery store, from barbecue sauce to coffee creamer.

{5-minute, 5-ingredient} Homemade Chocolate Syrup ~ quick and easy; perfect on ice cream or in chocolate milk; no additives like store bought brands | FiveHeartHome.comSeveral months ago, I shared a recipe for a to-die-for Homemade Caramel Sauce that whipped up in just five minutes with only five ingredients. And guess what? Today I’ve got a 5-ingredient, 5-minute, Homemade Chocolate Sauce for you, reminiscent in flavor and consistency to the kind that’s sold in those famous dark brown bottles and cans, but without any of the crazy ingredients!

{5-minute, 5-ingredient} Homemade Chocolate Syrup ~ quick and easy; perfect on ice cream or in chocolate milk; no additives like store bought brands | FiveHeartHome.comNow this is not a thick fudge sauce, mind you. It’s a thinner chocolate syrup that you can stir into milk to make chocolate milk or drizzle over ice cream for that perfect banana split. I stopped buying the “traditional” brand of chocolate syrup several years ago in an effort to feed my family real foods made with natural ingredients. Over time, we’ve tried a few organic brands of chocolate syrup, but they never tasted quite as good as our old standby and they were quite expensive. But this chocolate syrup? Not only does it taste better than the original, but it’s also cost effective to make in big batches!

Homemade Chocolate Syrup {with 5 ingredients in 5 minutes!}

Easy homemade chocolate syrup -- made with five natural ingredients in about five minutes -- is a scrumptious topping for ice cream and makes perfect chocolate milk, without the additives and preservatives found in many store bought brands.

Ingredients

  • 1¼ cups water
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small pot set over medium-high heat, mix water and sugar until dissolved. Bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 3 minutes, stirring regularly.
  2. Stir in cocoa powder and salt, and continue stirring and simmering for about two more minutes or until cocoa powder is all dissolved and mixture is smooth and slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Store chocolate syrup in a jar in the refrigerator.

Notes

This syrup will thicken as it cools and should have the consistency of store bought chocolate syrup once cooled. It is not supposed to be thick like a fudge sauce.
