I have always had a fondness for cream cheese. Whether spread on a bagel as-is or jazzed up in a recipe to make it sweet or savory...if cream cheese is an ingredient, you can bet I'm going to inhale it! For example, when presented with a platter of pastries or kolaches (for those of you lucky enough to be familiar with those), I will always choose the one that includes cream cheese. So can you guess where I'm going with this today? That's right, friends...I'm stuffing cream cheese into some quick and easy Strawberry Pastries!

Shortcut Crescent Roll Dough

Sometimes simple recipes are the best...and it really doesn't get much simpler than this one!

Now y'all know that I enjoy making things from scratch but, that being said, I appreciate a good shortcut as much as the next gal. And there's no need to toil over homemade pastry dough when you have a can of ever-versatile crescent roll dough in the fridge!

The Filling

Then, of course, there's the aforementioned cream cheese filling, which includes a dollop of strawberry preserves to give it a lovely color and a hint of strawberry flavor.

Finally, there's a layer of gorgeous, thinly-sliced, fresh strawberries. They soften in the oven and meld with the cream cheese for a flavor that's a step up from your average cream cheese pastry.

How to Make Strawberry Pastries

  1. Start out this simple recipe by whipping up your simple cream cheese mixture.
  2. Next, press your crescent rolls into four rectangles of dough.
  3. Divide the cream cheese mixture between the rectangles and spread into an even layer on one-half of each rectangle.
  4. Top with sliced strawberries.
  5. Fold over the crescent roll dough, press with a fork to seal, cut a few slits in the top, and garnish with a sprinkle of sugar. (If you're feeling wild and crazy, you can even make that a sprinkle of coarse sparkling sugar! Not only will it add bling to your breakfast, but that little bit of crunch is such a nice contrast to the tender pastry and the smooth, creamy filling.)
  6. Pop your pan in the oven for for a brief stint and...voilà!

Easy Strawberry Pastries

Quick and easy Strawberry Pastries feature shortcut crescent roll dough is wrapped around a filling of cream cheese and freshly sliced strawberries!

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon strawberry jam or preserves
  • 6 strawberries, thinly sliced
  • 1 (8-ounce) can crescent rolls
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Granulated OR coarse sparkling sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer to beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and strawberry jam until smooth and creamy.
  • Unroll crescent roll dough and separate into four rectangles. Press firmly along the triangle perforations to seal. Place rectangles on an ungreased baking sheet (or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper).
  • Divide cream cheese mixture evenly between the four pieces of dough, spreading on one half of each rectangle and leaving a thin border around the edges. Arrange strawberry slices on top of cream cheese mixture, using about 1 ½ strawberries per pastry (or whatever fits).
  • Fold dough over filling so that edges meet, and press along edges firmly with a fork to seal. Brush top of each pastry with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Using a sharp knife, cut three diagonal slits on surface of each pastry.
  • Bake for 13 to 16 minutes or until pastries are a deep golden brown. Place pan on a wire rack and cool pastries for 10 minutes before removing with a spatula and serving warm.

Notes

You may easily double this recipe to yield 8 pastries.

  1. Can these be made and frozen to re-heat? I would love to make these for my daughter for easy school day breakfast

    1. Hi Kayleigh! Gosh, I wish I could definitively answer your question, but I'm just not sure! These pastries are best served straight out of the oven, and sometimes the texture of cream cheese can change/degrade when it's frozen and then thawed. So I would probably suggest making a batch, storing most of it in the refrigerator for up to a week, and testing the freezing/re-heating method with one or two pastries. 🙂

  2. I made these but it took 22-25 minutes to bake. The ones that were in there for only 16 minutes were still too soft up top.

      I just made these and they are delicious! I modified a bit with using chocolate chips instead of fresh strawberries because I'm not a fan of cooked fruit. I then put fresh strawberries on top with whipped cream. Yum yum, no leftovers because we each devoured two.
