Happy almost-New Year, friends! It’s time for that fun, annual, end-of-year post in which I share Five Heart Home’s most popular recipes of the past twelve months!
After digging through analytics, these are the recipes that received the most traffic out of alllll the new recipes I shared in 2018. Is the suspense killing you yet???😉
The very first recipe I shared in 2018 actually comes in as the final ranking in this year’s countdown. These yummy applesauce muffins have a fluffy texture and a lightly spiced flavor. And best of all, they’re a cinch to make in the blender…simply measure out the ingredients, give ’em a whirl, and pour into a lined muffin pan!
This quick bread recipe is a bit more on the decadent side, but it’s oh-so-good. Moist pumpkin bread is swirled with cinnamon sugar and then generously topped with more of the same for a sweet, crackly top. Makes me wish it was pumpkin season RIGHT NOW.
Another recipe on the healthier side, my family requests this sauce frequently. It’s quick and easy to whip up with just five basic ingredients, and instead of mayonnaise, it gets its creaminess from healthier Greek yogurt. If Homemade Chicken Nuggets are on the menu at our house, you can be sure a bowl of this honey mustard is on the side!
#17 ~ Zesty Cheese Spread
I devised this recipe last year with Super Bowl Sunday in mind, meaning that its time is coming up once again! It’s creamy and zippy and perfect spread on pretzels, crackers, or even raw veggies…if you’re feeling virtuous.😉
This Olive Garden copycat recipe took off as soon as I shared it last fall! And it’s easy to see why. Not only is it delicious, but it’s a lightened-up version of the popular restaurant soup that happens to be super simple to whip up in the crock pot.
#15 ~ The BEST Chicken Pot Pie
I love Chicken Pot Pie. I especially love *this* Chicken Pot Pie. It really is the best. And apparently y’all are fond of it, too! I hope you’ll have a chance to try this one soon if you haven’t already.😊
Everyone knows that the classic upside-down cake flavor is pineapple. But have you ever tried the same dessert concept with a different fruit? This strawberry variation is divine, and on top of that, it’s glossy and vibrant and ruby red and gorgeous…a must-make cake for summer!
This summer spin on sangria is a bubbly, refreshing, tropical cocktail made with just five ingredients…perfect for poolside, parties, and BBQs! And have a mentioned that it’s as simple as measure, pour, and stir?
2018 was the year I started experimenting with my electric pressure cooker, and my beloved, tried-and-true Slow Cooker German Lentil Soup with Sausage recipe was the first recipe I decided to convert. Good news…it turned out great in the Instant Pot, and now I enjoy having both methods as options, depending on if I need to cook fast or slow on a particular day!
Another bean-and-sausage soup, this one is a decidedly different variation than the German one above. Made in the crock pot, this cozy recipe is loaded with creamy beans, spicy andouille sausage, tender veggies, and a flavorful broth that’s sure to warm you up from the inside out!
I love sharing homemade pantry-staple-type mixes on the site, because not only are they more economical to make yourself in bulk, but you can also avoid all of the processed ingredients that often infiltrate store-bought mixes. This ranch dressing mix is handy to keep on hand for whipping up a quick batch of homemade ranch salad dressing or dip, of course. But it’s also great for adding flavor to any other recipe that calls for a store-bought packet of ranch dressing mix. No weird or icky ingredients here!
#9 ~ Healthy Trail Mix
Homemade trail mix is such a great snack, because not only is it filling, but you can also make it as wholesome and yummy as you like! I load mine up with heart- and brain-healthy nuts like walnuts and pecans, and also add some almonds and pecans for flavor and crunch. A bit of dried fruit and a smidge of dark chocolate and this is a satisfying snack that the whole family loves!
#8 ~ Copycat KIND Bars
Whaddya’ know?! Another healthy snack that’s loaded with nuts and fruit! These copycat bars are easy to customize, conveniently portable, and a great way to save money as opposed to buying the store-bought version.
Another foray into Instant Pot experimentation, this chicken, black bean, and corn medley is as effortless as recipes come. It makes a great filling for tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, burrito bowls, and so much more!
This moist, scrumptious cake is bursting with lemon and topped with a glossy, sweet-tart glaze. As an added bonus, it’s made in a big ol’ half sheet pan — meaning it’s big enough to feed a crowd — and it’s a huge hit with everyone who tries it!
#5 ~ Easy Pasta Salad
This simple pasta salad recipe isn’t fancy, but it sure is tasty. Featuring tri-color pasta studded with diced olives and pimentos in a zesty homemade Italian dressing, it’s a versatile summer side dish that’s the perfect accompaniment to burgers and barbecue and so much more!
#4 ~ Lemon Pound Cake
Something tells me y’all are fans of lemon desserts…🤔 Two spots down from that #6 lemon sheet cake is this bursting-with-lemon pound cake. It’s the same level of lemon deliciousness except made in a bundt pan, with a denser crumb and a deep golden crust. Delightful!
Coming in at #3 is a simple, decidedly un-fancy recipe from my childhood. But that doesn’t mean it’s not yummy! This tuna pasta salad remains one of my favorite lunches…it’s a classic for a reason!
Apparently y’all approved of my Instant Pot experimentation this past year, because this pressure cooker sweet-and-savory carrot side dish was the second most popular recipe of the year! My favorite thing about this recipe is that if you need a side of carrots for a holiday meal — sayyyy, Easter — when your oven and stovetop and slow cooker are all already occupied, this one practically makes itself…elsewhere.😉 It’s effortless and tasty!
And drumroll, please…coming in as the #1 new recipe of 2018…
Who’d have guessed it…another instant pot recipe! It’s easy to understand why, though. These Instant Pot Refried Beans are creamy, flavorful, and a cinch to make in the pressure cooker…the perfect side dish for all of your favorite Mexican entrées!

However, these weren’t necessarily the recipes on the site that received the most overall traffic in 2018 — those recipes were often originally posted in 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, or even 2013 (despite the less-than-stellar photography back then — ha). So after counting down the Top 20 Recipes of 2018, I think it’s kind of fun to see which recipes held the same honor in years past. These recipes continue to remain highly popular today!
