Well, folks...31 days down, only 334 to go! So what say we celebrate achieving a full month of healthy eating resolutions with some fluffy, creamy, delectable Chocolate Dip??? 😉

Ohhh, I jest. Keep drinking your smoothies and eating your kale and quinoa for a bit longer...you're doing awesome!

You can always save this amazing, decadent Chocolate Dip recipe for your Super Bowl party in a couple weeks. Or better yet, for dipping some long-stemmed strawberries on Valentine's Day!

Ingredients

Or, if you're like me and you've been alternating your healthy resolutions with the reality of daily life, you can whip up a bowl of Chocolate Dip STAT! After all, you can opt to scoop it up with fruit, so it can't be all bad, right? 🙃

And, as a bonus, it contains real ingredients...no Cool Whip or marshmallow fluff here (tasty though they may be).

In fact, all you need are FIVE simple ingredients!

  • Chocolate chips. Semi-sweet and good quality.
  • Heavy whipping cream. Chilled.
  • Cream cheese. Softened and cubed.
  • Powdered sugar.
  • Pure vanilla extract. Use the real stuff!

How to Make Chocolate Dip

(The below photos are intended to be helpful, but please refer to the recipe card at the bottom of this post for FULL DIRECTIONS.)

This scrumptious Chocolate Dip can be thrown together in a matter of minutes!

  1. Measure chocolate chips into a heat-safe bowl and melt in the microwave or over a double boiler, stirring regularly until completely smooth. Set aside and allow to cool.

  1. Measure heavy cream into a large bowl. Use an electric mixer to whip the cream to soft peaks; set aside.

  1. In another large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  2. Blend in the vanilla and the cooled melted chocolate.

  1. Beat at high speed until light and fluffy.

  1. Gently but thoroughly fold in your whipped cream until no streaks remain.

  1. Cover your Chocolate Dip and chill until ready to serve. Then set out with fresh fruit or your favorite dippers!

Ideas for Dippers

Back when I first shared this chocolate fruit dip (over nine years ago now!), it received a stamp of approval and two enthusiastic thumbs up from Five Heart Home's Director of Chocolate Taste Testing. At that time, my boys opted to eat their apple slices first (plain) and then eat their Chocolate Dip with a spoon...while my daughter used her fingers to wipe every last trace of dip from her bowl, resulting in a happy trail of chocolate up her arms, on her shirt, in her hair, and alllll over her face.

I'm happy to report that we are all much more civilized now. 😆

So what are some ideas for edible, non-spoon, non-finger dippers?

  • Fruit. The obvious choice! We like to dip whole strawberries and sliced apples, but other options could include cherries, banana slices, melon wedges, or pineapple chunks.
  • Jumbo marshmallows.
  • Pretzel twists.
  • Cookies. Get creative! Graham crackers, animal crackers, coconut macaroons, shortbread cookies, chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, Oreos...the cookie dipper possibilities are endless for this Chocolate Dip recipe!
  • Pound cake or angel food cake. Cut into cubes.

Just a note: some of these ideas -- such as marshmallows or cubes of cake -- might benefit from being set out with some toothpicks for spearing and dipping.

With its cream cheese undertone and whipped texture, this recipe really does taste like fluffy chocolate cheesecake!

It's guaranteed to disappear in a flash whether you serve it at a party or a get-together. But let's be honest here...you don't even need a party for your Chocolate Dip to disappear! It's also great as an after-school snack or an any-night-of-the-week dessert option.

Super Bowl is in a week and a half and Valentine's Day is right after that, so I proclaim February as the perfect time to try this quick, easy, dessert dip recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¾ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, more or less, to taste
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Measure chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 1 minute; stir chocolate well. Microwave for another 30 seconds; stir until chocolate is smooth. (If necessary, microwave in additional 15-second increments, stirring between each one, until chocolate is completely melted and smooth.) Set aside and allow to cool.
  • Pour heavy cream into a large bowl. Use an electric mixer to whip the cream until soft peaks form. Set aside.
  • In another large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Blend in vanilla and melted chocolate. Beat at high speed until light and fluffy.
  • Gently but thoroughly fold in whipped cream until no streaks remain. Cover and chill until ready to serve with fresh fruit, such as strawberries, apple slices, pineapple chunks, melon spears, etc.

  • If you wish, you may use a double boiler method to melt your chocolate chips over a pot of water on the stove rather than using the microwave.

    Made this for a "Dip Day" potluck and served with pretzels to dip. Super simple to make, especially if you have a stand mixer, and a nice balance of sweetness.

    1. Hi Ky! I haven't tried it, but I think you could definitely add a splash of either of these...I would just whip it in a teaspoon at a time to make sure the consistency of the dip isn't altered (and taste test as you go). You could opt to replace all or part of the vanilla or just add it in addition. Good luck!

    So amazing, but made more than I was expecting! Could I refrigerate or freeze leftovers? How long do you think it will keep?

    1. Glad you enjoyed it, Emily! You can definitely refrigerate the leftovers, for up to 5 days or so. I wouldn't recommend freezing the leftovers since the dairy won't hold up when thawing.
