Summer is here! Summer is here! Am I alone in wanting to shout it from the rooftops, y'all? May is always a hectic month, but this year it seemed even crazier than usual. The last day of school couldn't come a moment too soon for this mama...
So now that summer vacation has finally arrived, we've been soaking up these first few lazy, hazy days...before swimming lessons and Vacation Bible School and day camp and travel commence. It's been downright restorative to ditch the ol' schedule for a bit, stick close to home, play all day (therapeutic for the kids), clean out a few closets (therapeutic for me). 😉 And to make things feel even more summer-celebratory, we spent a few days stepping away from the usual menu options as well.
Ice cream for breakfast? Sure! Pasta salad for lunch? Yum! An assortment of appetizers and dips for dinner? Why not!
Ingredients
And that, my friends, is how this Creamy Salsa Dip was born.
With just FOUR ingredients, it's super quick to whiz together in the food processor.
- Salsa.
- Greek yogurt.
- Taco seasoning.
- Cilantro.
Served with chips, it's super yummy and addictive.
And served with raw veggies, you don't even have to feel guilty about it!
Variations
I always keep Greek yogurt in the fridge and decided to use it in this recipe in lieu of sour cream for a healthier twist with extra protein -- you know, since this was a recipe conceived for dinner and all. 😉
But this dip would be equally yummy made with sour cream if that's your preference (or what you already have on hand).
Or you could even use half Greek yogurt and half sour cream.
As for the salsa, you can use homemade salsa or your favorite jarred or refrigerated variety. Keep in mind that the heat level of your salsa -- mild, medium, or hot -- is going to contribute to the spiciness of your final dip.
The Flavorings
The taco seasoning gives this Creamy Salsa Dip an extra zippy kick, balancing out the neutral flavor of the Greek yogurt. You can add more or less, but keep in mind that the flavor is going to intensify after the dip has had time to chill in the fridge for a bit. If your taco seasoning is homemade, all the better!
And finally, the cilantro. I'm on the obsessed-with-cilantro end of the spectrum, so as far as I'm concerned, the more, the better! However, if you're not so enamored with cilantro, feel free to leave it out altogether.
How to Make It
It basically makes itself.
- Blend everything together in a blender or food processor until smooth and creamy.
- Pop in the fridge to allow the flavors to blend and the consistency to thicken.
- And then...get ready to dig in!
Creamy Salsa Dip would be great at a barbecue, as a poolside snack, for tailgating, or at year-round parties and get-togethers.
And since it's relatively light and healthy, rumor has it that you can even enjoy it as part of a balanced celebratory dinner. 😉
Enjoy, y'all, and happy summer!

Notes
Brittany
I’ve been looking for ways to have healthier snack options where salt and fat ingredients are low. This recipe has been one of my go to’s for game nights, taco bowls, etc. Thank you so much!
Randi
Is the nutrition information for the whole recipe or for a serving?
Samantha Skaggs
Sorry for any confusion, Randi. I just updated the recipe. Now the nutrition info is calculated for one serving, with a 2-cup batch of this dip yielding 10 servings. Hope that helps!
Amy
Tastes so yummy but can’t seem to thicken it up?? Will it thicken once cooled? Mine is milk consistency
